Capital Allowances
Our client is a hotel, bar and restaurant in the East of Scotland offering high quality accommodation and leisure facilities. The company added an extension to its property, including a larger café, several bedrooms and new leisure facilities, with some behind-the-scenes costs such as a new boiler room.
How we helped our client
Our Engagement team are in regular contact with the owner and identified an opportunity to identify costs, at the outset, which could qualify for capital allowances.
EQ reviewed the agreed quote from the main contractor and identified nearly £400,000 of qualifying costs relating to heating, lighting, new furniture, the leisure area etc. When the work was finished, EQ toured the new premises to ensure the quote and the final outcome were matched, and reconciled the costs per the quote of the actual changes.
A comprehensive report was prepared, added to the relevant tax return and a £75,000 tax saving was secured for the company, all of which was in the first year.
