This client operates within the technology sector, as a market leader for access control systems at large venues. This company was an existing EQ client, with the R&D opportunity being identified through the Engagement team’s knowledge of the company’s activities.
What type of work does the company do?
The main focus of the client’s R&D claim centred on the development of a new access control system. This was designed and implemented for remote events and festivals where no fixed structures or reliable network connections necessarily existed. The access control system was required to verify and check tickets’ validity and grant access even if the network went down. At the same time, each terminal was required to communicate and exchange data with the other terminal, ensuring each terminal had an updated list of both valid and used tickets.
Why was the R&D work was done?
In order to achieve the flexibility and control over their existing access control system, the company had to completely redesign the software on a new platform. This involved extensive trial and error as well as the introduction of new processes and the design of a new framework. The company tested numerous ways for the terminals to constantly communicate with each other as well as individually holding an up-to-date list of valid tickets, which would be used to validate ticket during network outage.
What was the outcome?
As a result of the R&D claim, our client received tax savings of £60,000.
