Meet Our R&D Taxperts – Ross Oliphant

R&D Tax Credits are a government-backed initiative designed to encourage innovation. Successful claims can provide a valuable source of cashflow for eligible companies, allowing businesses to invest back into the company.

At EQ, we have a dedicated team of R&D Taxperts that submit claims on behalf of our clients. To date, they have helped claim over £22m of tax savings for our clients, many of which are delivered on a yearly basis.

As accountants, tax and business advisors, we spend time getting to know clients’ businesses, allowing us to fully explore the scope of a potential R&D claim. This has allowed us to ensure that every claim submitted has benefitted the client, resulting in significant tax savings to invest back into their business.

The final member of the team is Partner, Ross Oliphant. We asked him to provide advice to anyone considering making a claim or changing providers.

How long have you been completing R&D claims for?

“I joined the R&D team when I moved to EQ in 2016.”

What kind of claims have you been involved in recently?

“As a Partner in the Glenrothes office, I work together with Natalie and Scott to complete R&D claims. A lot of my clients are in the engineering & manufacturing sector or work within food & drink, so many of my claims are for those types of businesses.”

What do you enjoy most about helping clients claim R&D tax credits?

“I enjoy getting to know my clients and working closely with them, so they see me as an extension of their business. This means I can easily identify R&D opportunities which many clients hadn’t considered before, resulting in valuable tax savings that they can then reinvest back into the company. Having access to vital cashflow can make a big difference and seeing how clients use this to their benefit is a great part of being involved in the R&D team.”

What advice would you give someone who may be unsure if they are eligible to make a claim?

“Ask the question. We are happy to offer an appraisal of your business to see if you are eligible and there is no harm in doing so. You won’t know until you get an opinion and that’s what we are here for. R&D tax credits provide a great opportunity to upgrade essential equipment which is critical for businesses so don’t think it won’t apply to you and miss your chance.”

If you would like to discuss your circumstances with Ross or any of our R&D Taxperts, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. We will never tie you into a contract and would be happy to have a no obligation discussion to see if we can help you make a claim.

You can email us on R&[email protected] or call any of our offices to arrange a chat with our of our team.
