New Online Service For Landlords To Request Direct Rent Payments
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has launched a new online service for landlords to request direct payments from a tenant’s Universal Credit for rent or rent arrears.
The online service for direct rent payments is eligible to landlords of tenants in receipt of Universal Credit that are having difficulty paying their rent. It will replace the existing process which involved completing on a UC47 form which was then submitted via email or postal system to the DWP.
In addition, the DWP has confirmed that both private sector and social landlords can use the new service, and once an application has been processed, the landlord will be advised of the decision. However, the DWP has confirmed that they cannot discuss the reason for any declined applications due to data sharing regulations and claimant confidentiality.
