Our Taxperts Support Allan Murray Architects To Employee Ownership
Last year, our Employer Solutions Taxperts assisted Allan Murray Architects (AMA), one of Scotland’s most highly regarded architectural practices, to secure its future by entering into an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).
Founded by Allan Murray in 1992, AMA is an Edinburgh based architecture firm that aims to produce imaginative design solutions which are creative in their response to the client’s aspirations and appropriate to their needs. Under the guidance of Managing Director Conor Pittman, Director Kenny McNally and an experienced team, the transition to an EOT will allow the practice to continue developing and grow as it takes on new challenges, allowing Allan to fully retire knowing the practice is in good hands.
They contacted Ownership Associates who provided support through their employee-ownership journey along with legal advice provided by Anderson Strathern and expert accountancy and taxation support from our Employer Solutions team.
Director of Ownership Associates, Carole Leslie, commented: “Few firms can match AMA’s impact on the fabric of Edinburgh – though that is not to take away from the team’s projects throughout the country and further afield. It’s been personally rewarding to see them make that step into employee ownership and choose a route that works in the interest of its team – which for years has been fundamental to its success.”
Our Partner, Dougie Rae, who supported AMA through their EOT process added, “It was great to support the team at AMA in their transition to becoming an EOT, that provided a perfect succession solution for the business. As a firm, we’ve been involved in many EOT transactions and in this case, handing the business down to the employees has enabled the original founder of the business to fully retire whilst retaining their ethos as a practice. I’m sure the AMA team will continue to grow and develop whilst sharing in the rewards collectively.”
If you are looking at succession planning and would like to find out more about Employee Ownership, we would be happy to offer our advice and support. To discuss your circumstances, please get in touch with Dougie ([email protected]) or call one of our offices.
