Our client is a well-established snack manufacturer, supplying to both the UK and overseas.
What type of work does the company do?
Our client continually seeks to expand its range of products and offer innovative food products to its customers. Work has been undertaken to develop new products, whilst also continuing development on existing products to ensure high quality and determine ways to make their products healthier. Development of their packaging also continued to ensure that after transportation the product would still be of the same high quality and reach the customer undamaged.
What R&D work was completed?
Work was undertaken on developing healthier products, including trialing different methods and timings for cooking the products, using alternative ingredients, and investigating alternative equipment, in order to adapt the company’s existing products to meet government targets and changing consumer tastes. The company aimed to develop healthier products that had lower salt, sugar and fat content etc. without impacting on the quality and flavour of the end product. During the year the company also started development on a new type of healthy snack that would allow it to offer a unique product to its customers and expand its product range.
Work on improving the product packaging looked at alternative materials that could be used to ensure the product arrived with the customer in the same condition as it left the factory.
What was the outcome?
As a result of the 2-year R&D claim, our client received tax savings of £13,828.
