R&D – Food Manufacturing
Sector – Food manufacturing
Company Size – £13m Turnover
Qualifying Costs – £117,000
Our client is a producer of bespoke food for the food service and retail sectors, based in Fife.
What type of work does the company do?
Our client has a dedicated team of development chefs from a range of industry backgrounds. They are consistently developing new products and redeveloping existing products to meet current customer expectations.
What R&D work was completed?
The projects within the R&D claim included plant-based burgers that are healthier than the existing competition without the cost being too high. By researching new ingredients and manufacturing processes, the project was able to offer a far superior product to the marketplace. There was also a project where palm oil was eliminated from an existing product as a result of changes taken by a major supplier to eliminate palm oil from the food they sell. This was particularly challenging as it was the palm oil that made the product perform as required during cooking uncertainties. As a result, our client is spending its time research and developing solutions.
What was the outcome?
As a result of the R&D claim, our client received tax savings of £29,000.
