R&D – Food & Drink

Sector – Food and Drink
Company Size – £6.5m Turnover
Qualifying Costs – £397,205

Our client is a well-established family run butchers and bakers based in Fife. The company produces foods for sale in their own shops, and to supply to retailers.

What type of work does the company do?
Increasingly the company sells its products to retailers rather than selling in its own shops. It is the company’s ambition to maintain the quality of its traditionally handmade products whilst being able to produce larger quantities, with longer shelf-lives and within the tighter parameters that selling direct to retailers demands. Work is also undertaken to adapt the company’s existing products to meet government targets and changes in consumer tastes, without adversely affecting the consumer experience.

What R&D work was completed?
Work was undertaken to develop new products and processes. In doing so the flavour profile, quality, cost and shelf life of the products all had to be considered.

What was the outcome?
As a result of the R&D claim, our client received tax savings of £86,760.
